Welcome to the Library
Welcome to the PS 287 Library website! I am Mrs. Johnson, the school Library Media Specialist. I am honored to have your child in my class. I am looking forward to reading some wonderful stories this year with your child. We have many events planned for the new school year and hope that you and your child will take part in some of the activities.
Again, this year we are a part of the MyLibrary NYC program.
The MyLibrary NYC Program is a program run by the NYC Public Library and NYC Department of Education. It gives children special check-out privileges with their library card. Every child is required to have a library card so that they are able to use the public library. The public library can be used to do research, special events, and reading for enjoyment.
During the 2022/2023 school year, your child will be learning Internet safety, research skills to create independent research projects, and coding. They will learn how to read in depth using close reading techniques and annotations.
Please visit the favorite websites page. There you will find some websites that are child friendly and will help to build on their math and reading skills. You can also view the American Library Association's 2022 Best Apps for teaching and learning.
I have included the library Destiny website for you and your child to search books at the school library. You can find the search bar also on the Favorite Websites page.
Last year, we had our first book club. The students read "Ghost Boys" by Jewel Parker Rhodes. Please feel free to browse the library with your child to view our new selections and place a hold on their favorite book.
Don't walk, run to PS 287's "EL Libro Cafe" for your weekend reading!
Thank you for visiting.
